Silk Road Montessori is a small, private pre-school serving children 2½ to 6 years of age. We support and practice Montessori pedagogical methods and seek to unify our students’ classroom experiences with outdoor ecological learning and play experiences. Our highly experienced Montessori classroom guide is certified by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) and trained right here in Portland, Oregon at the Montessori Institute Northwest (MINW).
Global education / Local ecology
At Silk Road Montessori, we firmly believe in raising global awareness of our young students by offering a rich Montessori curriculum infused with true stories, artifacts, images, songs and poetry from around the world. Our students are exposed to traditional customs and dishes from the network of countries known as the Silk Road, stretching from Japan & China in the East to the Mediterranean countries in the West. Alongside our global curriculum is a deep focus on connecting children to the earth and local ecology through environmental education.
Language education
It is well known that children from birth through 6 years of age possess an amazing gift in their ability to acquire multiple languages existing in their environment with ease and pleasure. At Silk Road Montessori, we encourage this work of the child’s absorbent mind by offering a multilingual program for language development in English, Spanish, & French.
Environment & mind-body health
Silk Road Montessori maintains a strong focus on environmental health and environmental education. We engage children’s wonder with the natural world and provide solid pathways for children’s connection to the earth through active practice and teaching of healthy ecological principles.
We take a holistic approach toward the well-being of each child, seeking a balance of the body, mind and spirit. We provide an atmosphere of trust, safety and respect in which the experience of joyful learning and growth is bound to happen.
